My heart on my sleeve makes me a better photographer.

Wearing my heart on my sleeve makes me photograph your wedding better…
I will cry at. every. single. toast. that’s from the heart at your wedding. If you and your dad cry, as you embrace when he sees his baby girl in her wedding dress for the first time… I will bawl like a baby.

I feel a spectrum of emotions on your wedding day; I’ll either have a very genuine smile on my face, a happy tear on my cheek or an intent look as I’m plotting my next photo… I wear my heart on my sleeve and my face can’t hide it.

Definitely explains why I’ve had my heart broken so many times and require a recovery day after rejection (personal or business) as it can be crushing. On the other hand I’m invincible (can’t be taken down) when on cloud 9. Lighter than air 🙂
But feeling so intently, wearing my heart bare on my sleeve (unguarded) makes me more open to my surroundings and makes me a better relationship photographer;
I’m more in tune to what you’re feeling, I’m aware of it and will capture it so that years from now when you’re looking through your wedding album you will feel all the emotions you felt on your wedding day.

I see the world idealized because I view it through my heart. It’s being true to who God made me to be 🙂

Recent books that changed my life

I know, it’s a heavy statement; Books that changed my life.
Here’s the thing though, I REALLY mean it!

A person who won’t read has no advantage over one who can’t read. ~Mark Twain

There’s a common thread you’ll see with these 3 books; They’re all focused on serving PEOPLE better. That’s it.
I grew up the youngest of 8 in a serving household, I’ve had a lifelong of example in this stuff, though it’s at the very core of who I am so I actively search out ways to improve on it and thus improve on myself. It’s rare that a book on this subject sticks with me, and I recently found 3!

a: A classic, though I just read it 🙂 I’m pretty sure I’ll re-read it for the rest of my life.
How To Win Friends And Influence People.

Now if you’re not familiar with this book, I know it sounds like a book on how to manipulate people… But honestly it would be better titled as something like

‘How to be a better person, and thus people will like you better. Cause people like genuinely good people’.

I put this one off too long and wish I hadn’t.

b: Searching out and reading this book all started with a TEDTalk by it’s author, Simon Sinek, titled The Golden Circle.
I’m referring this time to the book Start With Why.

In this book Simon studies companies that have been unarguably successful in changing the world through their work; Companies like Apple & Microsoft.
He explores the idea that the driving force of what made these companies be able to succeed on the level they have is centered around why they do what they do. This book took me through the process to finally discover why it is I love wedding photography so much; Capturing the significance of your closest relationships, because our relationships are what shape us into who we are and are what’s most important.

c: Lastly one with a long and somewhat confusing title; Secret Service: Hidden Systems That Deliver Unforgettable Customer Service.
It has little to do with protecting the President and much more to do with how to best serve your customers.
John dives deep into ways that he and others have discovered to serve their customers at a level that goes far beyond what maybe expected.

Life’s too short for bad customer service 🙂

I have Gary Vaynerchuk’s 3 books next; Crush It, The Thank You Economy & Jab, Jab, Jab Right Hook!
    I’m looking forward to these.
